All students enrolled in our lesson program receive a private lesson each week with one of our world-class instructors. Private instruction is at the core of what we do, and the most important educational setting for a music student who wishes to excel in other areas of music. Our lessons are key to a child's growth as a musician, and much more rigorous than group lessons received through public school. A one-on-one lesson allows the teacher to tailor the curriculum to the individual needs of the student, and maximizes their potential.

Each of our students has the same teacher throughout the school year, ensuring that they can grow consistently. Many of our staff members have worked at the MAF for years, and build lasting relationships with their students and families. In addition, all of our teachers hold advanced degrees in music. We are proud to say that there is no better music education available on Long Island, whether in-person or virtually.

We teach a variety of instruments, and all ages and styles, including:

Voice Lessons • Vocal Coaching
Our vocal staff are classically trained, and hold advanced degrees in music. Proper technique, note reading, and developing a healthy voice are at the core of our voice teaching philosophy. In addition to classical repertoire, we teach musical theatre, pop, rock, and other contemporary singing styles. We also have a comprehensive Musical Theatre Program.

Piano Lessons
Our piano instructors teach a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, pop, rock, and blues. All piano students at MAF learn note reading, music theory, and proper technique.

Electric Guitar Lessons • Acoustic Guitar Lessons • Ukulele Lessons
MAF guitar instructors are experts in jazz, classical, rock, pop and blues. Our guitar students also learn proper note reading and technique, as well as music theory. Guitar students at MAF can learn everything from classical guitar on a nylon string to hard rock on a Fender Strat. In addition to guitar, our instructors also teach ukulele, which is a great instrument for kids to start on if they are interested in the guitar.

Strings Lessons: Violin Lessons • Viola Lessons • Cello Lessons
We offer strings instruction using a variety of methods and techniques, incorporating the Suzuki Method, as well as other methods that emphasize the importance of note reading.

Double Bass • Electric Bass
Our bass instructors teach upright bass and electric bass, and are trained in classical and jazz. Bass students at MAF can learn a variety of styles including pop, rock, blues, jazz, classical, and more.

Woodwinds Lessons: Clarinet Lessons • Flute Lessons • Saxophone Lessons • Oboe Lessons
Our instructors specialize in all woodwind instruments, including soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone.

Brass Lessons: Trumpet Lessons • Trombone Lessons • French Horn Lessons • Tuba Lessons • Euphonium Lessons
We teach all brass instruments at the Music Academy, with instructors who are experts at the various techniques employed on each instrument. Students who take brass lessons at MAF learn proper embouchure, breathing, and note reading.

Drum Set & Percussion
Drum instructors at MAF are experts at teaching drum set, including jazz, rock, pop, and other styles. In addition, our instructors are trained percussionists, which means they can help students in concert band and orchestra learn techniques for various percussion instruments. Drum students learn to read music, proper stick control, and correct technique.

NYSSMA Preparation
All of our instructors are experienced at NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) preparation. Each year, MAF students excel at NYSSMA and are routinely selected for All County and All State ensembles.
